Second National Student-Investors' Convention (NSInC) '09

MONEY MAXIS

Maximize Student Investment Strategies

The best way to predict the future is to invent it”---the unforgettable statement emphasized by the second speaker in his discussion on the importance of saving. As young students and future finance analysts, he encouraged us to save for future usage and benefit. However, as we grow older and smarter, we come to know the broad meaning of saving which does not only cover those in our piggy banks, but also saving in the bank/s. Though there is very little interest rate, still it is considered investing. Just as what Sir Bayot asked during his talk, “If you save money in the bank, are you investing?” And the undeniable answer was a flashy “Yes”.

However, there is still a better way to make money bigger and that is through investments. If saving will allow you to save for emergencies, investing will help you accumulate wealth for the future. You could invest for life insurance, educational funds, health funds or retirement funds. It doesn’t matter if you start out small for as long as you do it regularly, in time you’ll be surprised to know how much money you have grown.

I have also learned that there are three types of people’s behavior on money: a) Income less Expenses equals Savings is the type who spends his income and save only the residual; b) Expense less Income equals Debt is the type who borrows money even before earning his income resulting to d.e.b.t., which the speaker pointed out as “don’t ever be tempted (to borrow)”; and c) Save→Income→Expense is the type who saves a part of his income. Among these three types of behavior, the third one would best describe me. I have even formulated my own equation and that is Income (or Allowance, in my case) less Savings equals Expense. This equation is evident in my regular saving practice every time I receive my monthly allowance. I keep 20% of it and intend to spend the remaining 80%. However, most of the time, I do not consume all 80% and so it is left as savings. Just as what the speaker said that once you receive your first income, you better invest it for your future.

The question as to invest or not need not be answered, because the answer is as apparent as the benefits it would portray. Furthermore, aside from the planning and doing, it is also best to set at least one goal, like at the age of 50, I want to just retire from work and let money work for me, which will serve as your inspiration, and which you will stand by and fulfill.

This was a whole day event conducted last November 21 at Leong Hall Auditorium, ADMU by the Management Economics Organization (MEco) of the Ateneo de Manila University.

It's not the Tee... it's the Bee!

Lately, I have realized the need to have only one phone. Yes, just A phone.

Having two phones is really bulky. That's why I'm planning to give myself a dual phone, hopefully, for my birthday.. ^___^ yiheeeee!

Last summer, while strolling at SM North Annex with my family, I saw this MyPhone T22 duo. I have been dreaming of having the phone for myself and it makes me inspired to save money.

Just recently, as I research on its features, I found out that it has no FM Radio. :(
I was very disappointed since one feature that I want to have is a Radio. So I look for other MyPhone brand, only MyPhone since Samsung dual phones are much expensive, and good thing I have come up to this site:

I was very happy to have known MyPhone B22! ^___^ It's the only MyPhone duo which has an FM Radio, as of now. Well, I guess this is the phone destined to be mine...soon.

The "Logic" Game - - -shared by Marriete

My sister, Marriete, just got home from school at around 9:12 p.m. Two hours before that, she called saying that she'll be late because they have a case study that's due tomorrow.

I was surfing the net, searching for my report on "The Evolution of Money during the Japanese Regime in the Philippines" and playing the "Restaurant City" in facebook when my sister, while eating jack fruit, said: " I have a game for you and its not an ordinary game for it's logical. We had this while having a break from our case study."

I looked at her and thought, "Why not? Game!"

"Ok, listen carefully... "Harry likes basketball but not basket."- - -she said while she enjoy eating the fruit.

I looked at her with a questioning look.

"Harry likes Kamille but not Kams"- - -she added.

"So, what's logical with that?", I thought.

and here's another one- - -"Harry likes University of the Philippines but not U.P."

I was then focused on what she was saying that I forgot about my net surfing, I repeated every example she said. She told me that if I already know the game, I'll just make my own example, so I said "Eugene likes Miriam College but not M.C." (I had thought of this only because she use her own school...hahaha!)

"Yeah, could be", she said and then added "Harry likes Marriete but not Mar" and "Harry likes the floor but not the ceiling"...

Hhmmmm...I was in deep thinking. It somehow gave me an idea. I told her that maybe it's liking a common noun to a proper noun and gave an example like "Harry likes animals but not dogs".

"No, don't mind about the things you're talking but the words itself", she said. I thought of writing-down her examples for it is much easier to decipher, but she didn't allow me. "It is better if you'll get the answer by just thinking with all the effort of imagining," she said. So I was left imaging and imagining every word of the sentence in my head...and as I repeat her examples, I was able to get the logic... out of the game.

How about you?

Got the logic?

The examples (from my sister) are provided. :)

Try it yourself and drop a comment to my comment box on what you guess about this game.

I have one for you:

"Melissa likes cellphone but not phone."

Enjoy!!!

A Poem

"It hurts knowing that somebody owns you,

looking at your eyes
I know it's just longing for somebody new,
It hurts, you know? I'm jealous...
But what can I do?
Lucky is that girl for having you."

-M.A.C.E

This is my first-ever love poem! Would you believe that?! ha-ha. I wrote this when I was in my first year high school days...on a one sunny afternoon in school, during our Intramurals. (^_^)
